For the distributed expansion of a safety-oriented S7 controller, use is made of the ET 200M, ET 200S and ET 200pro (IP67) and/or the safety-oriented ET 200eco block I/Os (IP67). In the central configuration the S7-300F-CPU can be expanded with the safety-oriented I/O modules of the ET 200M.

All safe modules can diagnose internal and external errors and are configured with internal redundancy. They have their own self-tests and comply with the necessary safety requirements. In addition it is possible to combine "safe" and "non-safe" I/O modules in an ET 200M/ET 200S/ET 200pro station. Both the safety-oriented I/Os and the standard I/Os are connected through a fieldbus system, the PROFIBUS with PROFIsafe profile.

Using the corresponding PROFINET interface modules, the safety-oriented modules of the ET 200S and ET 200pro can also be connected to a PROFINET network.

The safety-oriented SIMATIC I/Os comply with the highest safety level:
